Listening Links

For those who have never played an instrument or are starting on a new-to-you instrument. You will be taught the basics – putting together your instrument, getting a sound, learning to read music, learning and playing a scale and simple band pieces at a level 0.5 – 1  It will be required to purchase Essential Elements Book 1 as well as rent an instrument from a reputable music company prior to the first rehearsal. If you already own a brand-name instrument, please ensure it is serviced and ready to play.

Listening Links

This band is a step up from Beginner. It may appeal to those returning to playing after a lengthy absence, those who want easier music to play, or those who would like more instrument-specific instruction. Music will be mainly at a level 1 – 2.

For those with several years of experience at an intermediate or advanced level, including familiarity with jazz music, this band will provide the challenge you are looking for.

Registration

Fall registration is open from August 22 to September 5.

Rehearsal dates

Eleven rehearsals beginning the week of September 16 through the week of November 25.

Bands rehearsing at Woodroffe United Church will finish the week of December 2 as the church is closed the week of October 21.

Rehearsal length

Two one-hour sessions separated by a 15-minute break.

Fees

The fee is $200 per in-person band. The fee for any subsequent in-person band is also $200.

Level

Depending on the bands offered, there will be a range of music levels, from beginner through to advanced-intermediate. See band descriptions for the current session information.

Music

Links to the printable music parts will be sent to registrants by the band leaders the week before rehearsals begin.

Clinics/Sectionals

Each in-person band in the fall and winter sessions only will offer a number of instructional clinics or sectionals depending on the band level.

Refunds

A member withdrawing from a band before the third rehearsal of a session will receive a full refund, minus a $25 administrative fee. Refunds will not be provided for later withdrawals.

Cancellations

Please note that it may not always be possible to find an alternate space/date should a rehearsal need to be cancelled. Therefore, if three or more rehearsals are cancelled for a particular band, those members can request a pro-rated refund.

End-of-session performance

If possible, each band will be provided with an opportunity to have their own performance or open rehearsal.
