Dreaming of playing a musical instrument or picking up that instrument you played in high school?
The Bytown Beginners is for all beginners and musicians who wish to refine skills at the level .5 to 1.5 (very easy/easy). No experience is needed. Experienced NHB musicians are invited to join to support new musicians, and do not pay a fee to play with the Bytown Beginner Band.
Every rehearsal is two hours long plus a short social break, and can be made up of a full band rehearsal for the whole time or a mix of full band rehearsal and one-hour instrument-specific clinics or sectional groupings. At the end-of-session concert, the band performs 4 pieces ranging from classical to contemporary. “Quest of the Black Knight” is an example of the type of piece played.
We use Essential Elements Book 1 for instruction. You will need an instrument, a pencil and a music stand. If you don’t have an instrument, contact the band leader.
Instrument choices: Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium/Baritone, Tuba, Electric Bass Guitar, Percussion (snare, bass, concert bells, auxiliary percussion)
