Greetings Capital Crescendos Band members,
Welcome to the Winter 2017 session of Ottawa New Horizons!
Capital Crescendos Band practices start this coming Thursday, January 19th, 12:45 – 3:00 at Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper St. at O’Connor. We will all meet downstairs at 12:45 in Fellowship Hall.
Please enter by the side door which is adjacent to the parking lot on Lisgar St.
As this Thursday is the first class of the session, I encourage everyone to arrive a little early, to allow time to park and find your way around. Parking in the church lot is very limited, and you may likely need to park elsewhere. Parking spots in the lot that are available for us to use are on the east side (left of the entrance as you face the building). Please note that the west side of the parking lot is rented for paid parking during the daytime, and not available for our use.
WINTER BOOTS: Please leave your boots in the cloakroom near the entrance, and bring along a comfy pair of indoor shoes to slip into.
We have a line up of enthusiastic professional music teachers who will be presenting sectional clinics during the session:
Clarinet & Saxophone section will be led by Angela Blackwell
Combined Brass & bass guitar section will be led by Heather Flinn
Flute section will be led by Sheila White
Percussion section will be led by Dominique Moreau & Andrew Harris
Details on schedule and room allocation for these clinics will be announced at our first meeting on Thursday.
In addition to your instruments (& drum sticks for percussionists), please remember to bring along a music stand, pencil and your name tags (new members will be provided with one on Thursday).
The Method Book we will be using is Tradition of Excellence Book 2.
Band music will be handed out on the first day, and we will have a fun afternoon of sight reading through some new and exciting selections.
To be sure that I have the correct email for everyone, please send me a quick “got it” so that I know everyone is in the loop. Thank you.
Looking forward to seeing you all this coming Thursday!
Sheila White
