Week 3 update from September 28, 2017

Greetings Capital Crescendos,

Theme of the Week: Keep Listening! While we are still learning our new repertoire, listening is just as important as practising. Get the feel of the music. Internalize the rhythms.

Administration

Thank you to everyone for the help in getting the chairs and percussion instruments set up and put away at the end of rehearsal.

This Week’s Rehearsal

Following our clinics we focussed on four pieces. First we played through You Must Know which is in cut time. We worked on the rhythm, first clapping and then singing to get more familiar with it. Using the listening links will help even more. Next we turned to the second movement of A French Canadian Suite. Like the first movement, it is in 6/8 time, but much slower. Listen for all six beats in the bar: 123 456. We then played through Riu, Riu, Chiu, a Spanish folksong. When practising, although the piece is challenging, push through to the end. Review the roadmap. Finally we played West Side Story, which is already sounding wonderful.

Next Week

Sectionals will be held again next week during the first hour. Pieces to focus on for next week are : West Side Story, Riu Riu Chiu and Celebrating my Three Best Friends.
