Rehearsal notes for September 25

Great work again tonight, gang! I appreciate your patience as we slowly, pedantically work through short sections of pieces that eventually will feel much more exciting to play (I promise!). I hope you hear the progress you’re making already!

We’re in clinics again for the first hour next week, October 2. Room assignments will stay the same, although some clinicians will change. I will update the clinic page (https://ottawanewhorizons.com/note/rondos-fall-2019-clinics/) as soon as I’ve confirmed the changes. Please check it early next week.

In last week’s rehearsal note, I left one tune (Mah-na, Mah-na) off the list of what should be in your folder. Here is the more accurate list:

  • Chorales 4, 6 & 9 from Bach & Beyond (double-sided copies, stapled; we will use these for warm-ups throughout the fall session)
  • And Goodnight
  • African Alleluia (this is the one we didn’t read last week)
  • Do-Re-Mi
  • Finale from Symphony No 1
  • Mah-na, Mah-na
  • Perfection

Please email me ASAP if you’re missing any parts. I will distribute one more tune, Soul Bossa Nova, next week. The plan is still to narrow this list down to four or five pieces for our concert performance, but I’ll keep them all on the go for now and check in about how you feel about them in a few weeks.

I’ve posted listening links for all seven tunes (not including the chorales) here: https://ottawanewhorizons.com/note/rondos-fall-2019-listening-links/

Since there was no overwhelming consensus regarding break-time refreshments, we will not prepare anything as a group. Everyone for themselves! So bring what you need to stay hydrated and avoid getting hangry, plus a toothbrush if you come with snacks but want to not blow food particles into your instrument.

Finally, here are the tunes to prepare for next week (basically, the things we worked on this week!):

  • Chorale No. 4
  • Mah-na, Mah-na
  • Perfection

We will also read through Soul Bossa Nova, which you will receive at the beginning of the second half of rehearsal.

Have a great week, everyone!

PS: Here’s the minor key version of the ‘Friends’ theme, which I meant to send last week. So sad.
