Our first band rehearsal on Thursday was a great start to the fall session! Wonderful sight reading, and listening to each other while keeping an eye on the baton.
Here is a summary of some notes and important dates:
Arrival Time, set up and take down: as Scout Hall is available to the band as of 12:15, please do not arrive or set up before this time. Much appreciated that people help to set up and take down chairs and percussion equipment (under the guidance of percussionists) before and after rehearsals.
Sectionals will take place during the first hour on the following dates: Sept 26, Oct 3, 10, 17, 31, Nov 21
There will be 4 groups for sectionals –
1. flutes & oboes in the Chapel
2. clarinets, saxes, bassoon in the Sanctuary
3. all brass in Banquet Room
4. percussion in Scout Hall
Important Date :
There will be no band on October 24 (the church is closed to prepare for their annual Bazaar)
Later in the session, the band will play a community concert. The concert will take place during the same time as a band rehearsal. Date and location TBA
ONHB end of session concert will take place in the afternoon of Sunday, December 15 at Brookfield HS
Volunteering: I am grateful to all the volunteers that have offered to help with the run of the band (there will be more opportunities as the session goes on):
Librarians: Charlotte and Judy
Refreshments: Cathryn and Paul
Social Committee: Errol and Andrew
*Band Rep: so far 2 people have volunteered to be Band rep, Jill (percussion) and Carl (tuba). Please let me know if anyone else would like to put their name forward.
Communications: please check your email regularly for weekly updates and notices. Also remember to check your email on the day of rehearsal in the off chance that there is a last minute change (due to unforseen circumstances).
Method Book: Tradition of Excellence Book 2
available at St John’s music on Merivale Rd. Remember to call ahead to be sure that the book is in stock, and also mention that you play in ONHB, as there is a discount for members.
Audio Links: here are the audio links to the pieces that we have worked on so far. We will continue to work on these 3 pieces at our next rehearsal. Enjoy listening to get the overall feel for the pieces, and remember that our tempos may be a little different from these recordings.
